LOCATION
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
Locavore in central Ubud is one of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants and the best restaurant in Indonesia. Chefs Eelke Plasmeijer and Ray Adriansyah use exclusively local Balinese ingredients — sourced from local farmers, fishermen, and foragers — to produce a tasting menu that's technically extraordinary and deeply rooted in Balinese food culture.
Locavore's name is its philosophy: every ingredient on the menu is sourced locally, within Bali. No imported proteins, no imported produce. The chefs work directly with local farmers, fishermen, and foragers to source ingredients that most restaurants would never consider using. The result is a menu that's genuinely unlike anything else in Asia.
The tasting menu at Locavore is 8-10 courses, each one a precise, technically accomplished expression of a Balinese ingredient. The duck with black rice and smoked coconut is extraordinary. The dessert course — built around local tropical fruits and Balinese spices — is one of the finest dessert courses Gerald has eaten anywhere.
Locavore's cocktail programme is as rigorous as its food programme — built around local spirits, local botanicals, and local fruits. The Bali Sour (local arrack, fresh lime, and a Balinese spice syrup) is extraordinary. The non-alcoholic pairing is also excellent.
A NOTE FROM NATURALLY STRAWS
Locavore's commitment to local sourcing and sustainability makes it a natural partner for Naturally Straws' bamboo and sugarcane straws.
